Growing mo-mentum for men’s health

November isn't just another month for Mark Winter here at Loan Market Greater Springfield. It’s Movember.

For 13 years, Mark has proudly sported a moustache that's become a symbol of hope, awareness, and action for men's health.

As an official Movember ambassador, Mark is a driving force in his local community. He’s helped the Springfield Mo-Men raise over half a million dollars to date for the leading global charity dedicated to changing the face of men's health.

The Springfield Mo-Men started in 2012 when Mark and his mate Paul decided to make a difference in men's health and suicide awareness in their local area.

It’s an important cause. With over seven men a day taking their lives in Australia, the work Movember does to change the face of men's mental health is vital.

"Movember is about community," Mark shares. "It’s about mates looking out for mates, and reminding everyone that no one has to face life’s challenges alone".

Mark knows what works for men. "It’s about having real conversations, breaking the stigma, and funding research and programs that save lives". He also wants to remind everyone that seeking help is a sign of strength".

Making a Difference, Right Where We Live

What started out as a bit of fun to raise money has turned into one of the most established local charity movements in the Ipswich region. The Springfield Mo-Men finished first in Queensland and third in the country for Movember fundraising Australia-wide in 2022.

They’ve built a strong local legacy, with state and federal members of Parliament getting involved. They host various fundraising events throughout the year such as Trivia nights, Gold days and Fathers Day car shows.

The Fathers Day Car Show, for example, saw over 38,000 people attend this year, making it one of the biggest events in the Ipswich region. Beyond the big events, they also run a Man Walk twice a week, Steak n Mates once a month, and Men @ the Movies once a quarter.

This commitment to the community has also seen Mark’s business, Loan Market Greater Springfield, win several industry awards in the Community Engagement space.

Mark's passion for making a difference shines through in everything he does, whether it's inspiring others to take part in Movember or helping clients at Loan Market Greater Springfield feel empowered to make their big financial decisions.
