A Q&A with Louis Stevens 

Tell us about your journey to become a Mortgage Broker

With over a decade working in the business and commercial banking space (primarily in the health sector) I developed a thorough understanding of the principals of lending. I worked closely with clients on their residential property goals and their business and commercial needs. After taking a few years off to spend some time with my young family, the opportunity arose to work locally for the highly regarded local mortgage broking business based locally in Cabarita Beach, Loan Market Excel. Working with a wide range of clients on both simple and complex transactions, I was able to use my previous lending experience to help clients achieve their finance goals.

What type of loans or clients do you work with most?

I enjoy working on all types of loans from first home buyers looking to get their foot in the property market, to complex commercial and development projects. With a background in business and commercial banking, I love to roll the sleeves up and delve deep into the numbers, to really understand a business or project and cater a solution that meets the clients current and future needs. However, whilst I love the complex transactions, it's also very hard to beat the satisfaction of seeing the smile on a first home buyers face on settlement day. :)

Why do your current clients choose you rather than going to a bank?

After working for many years in a big 4 bank, I had witnessed how the banks significantly transitioned away from relationship banking. Being a broker, we embrace that relationship model, and nurture strong long-lasting relationships with clients and their families throughout their entire financial life. We also have access to over 60 lenders, so compared with a bank's single offering and policies, we can always find the best solution for each individual's circumstances.

What do you enjoy most about living in the Northern Rivers?

Similar to most people that are lucky enough to live here, it's hard not to love everything about it. The world class beaches, such as Cabarita Beach, the stunning hinterland down as far as Byron Bay. The lush golf courses, the relaxed vibe and still being close enough to the South East Queensland cities, if the need arises to head to the big smoke. However the best part about this area is the strong local community who support each other in all facets of life, from supporting other local businesses, to helping each other through natural disasters like the recent floods. I am very grateful to live in this beautiful part of the world.

When you’re not working, what do you spend your time doing?

I have too many hobbies and not enough time for them all, but I really love my golf, distance running, weight training, camping, surfing, hiking, 4wding & travelling. But most importantly, I try to spend most of my time hanging out with my wife, two young kids and my Bernese Mountain Dog.
