Q & A with Damian;
What was your past experience before joining the team? How many years experience do you have in the finance industry as a mortgage broker?
Prior to deciding to start the Loan Market Select business in 2016, Damian was working in a Senior Management Role within the Personal Injury industry, using his skills and knowledge obtained as an Occupational Therapist, Damian joined the mortgage industry after he had gone through his own experience as a home buyer and finding the finance experience with a bank as an unclear, stressful, and extremely challenging process. He decided then and there to become a mortgage broker, and have a business that represents the needs and objectives of our clients, and a business which simplifies the process and looks after our customers for the entire duration of a home loan (not just up until settlement). Since 2016, Damian has developed his own skills and knowledge of the mortgage industry, and how to obtain the best results possible for customers, and has also grown the Loan Market Select team from a one person business, to the current award winning team of 10.
What is your role in the business?
Damian is the Principal Broker, and Managing Director of Loan Market Select.
What support do you offer your clients?
Loan Market Select is set up to ensure we support our clients from the first conversation until their home is purchased, and then ongoing until the home loan is repaid and closed. This involves educating our clients on the available loan options and loan structure possibilities, educating on either the home buying / investment property buying process, or on the benefits and options for a refinance. Loan Market Select aims to act for our clients and communicate with all key parties during the settlement process to ensure there are no surprises, and all goes the way it needs to go to achieve an on time settlement. Beyond this point, Loan Market Select then negotiates with the lender each 6 months to ensure that the bank is not charging any more than necessary for the loan.
Do you charge a fee for your services?
In almost all scenarios you are not required to pay a fee for our services. Instead, we’re paid a commission by the lender you choose through. Learn more here or get in touch if you have any questions.
Important question that everyone will want to know the answer to - if you’re going for dinner/breakfast/coffee somewhere in Sydney, where are you going?
I’m going to Mum and Dad’s for dinner - Mum cooks the best food I've ever tasted, and lives in the Barossa Valley in South Australia - so a flight and a drive for me, but if I could go there every day I would!
Have you always lived in Sydney?
I have not always lived in Sydney - funnily enough, my father was a Bank Manager for one of the big four banks, and we moved around a lot growing up. By my 21st birthday, I’d lived in more than 21 different locations, so you could say I’ve been everywhere! This has developed my love of Australia - having lived in New South Wales (city and country) and South Australia (city and country), I’ve had the opportunity to visit so many of Australia’s beautiful landmarks and natural phenomena, which has sparked a love for Australia and a desire to continue exploring it.
When you’re not working, what do you spend your time doing?
When I’m not working, I’m spending as much time as possible with my wife and my 3 daughters who are really young, and I see this time as being extremely precious, so this is a big priority for me. I also love running and playing cricket, so I squeeze those two in regularly to maintain my health and fitness. On top of this, I also love spending time with friends and extended family but time often limits how often we can enjoy this also.
