Shane is a Torquay local and has been in the real estate industry for over a decade. He purchased his first property at 24 (yep… we also had other, far less beneficial priorities at that age) and now likes to use all his knowledge to help others get into or advance in the housing market. He’s basically a huge asset to your team - Shane works alongside your agent and conveyancer to make the whole transaction much smoother. Whether homeownership is still just a twinkle in your eye, or you want to build your portfolio, Shane is your guy.

When he isn’t finding the right loan for his clients or helping them achieve their goals, he loves hooking up the caravan and setting off with his wife Lauren and two children. They’re the type of family that enjoys mountain biking and running in their leisure time. Add some coffee, and he is a very happy (caffeinated) man.

What types of loans or clients do you work with the most?

I see a lot of young families looking to upgrade to another home or find a better lending option for a refinance. I also enjoy helping first-home buyers. 

Do you charge a fee for your services?

In almost all scenarios you are not required to pay a fee for our services. Instead, we’re paid a commission by the lender you choose through. Learn more here or get in touch if you have any questions.

What is your favourite thing about being a Finance broker?

The best part about being a mortgage broker is helping first-home buyers into the market. I enjoy being able to provide them with guidance and seeing their excitement when getting into their own home. This is often a 5-10 year goal that I work with them to achieve.

I truly believe there is always more information we can provide to help clients get a better understanding of their finances - whether they’re a first home buyer and buying their 10th property. I love being a service to my local community in this way and look forward to helping as many clients as possible 😀.

Why should someone choose you rather than going to a bank?

The main reason is that as a mortgage broker I am legally required to work in your best interests and explore a number of options (from different lenders) to find a solution that suits you best. Banks on the other hand are businesses with shareholders, and unfortunately they answer to those shareholders and not the customers. Everything we do is about getting the right outcome for you.  

The other reasons I would say that using a broker is preferable to a bank is choice and also service. We have over 60 lenders on our panel and have access to hundreds of products for all different types of client requirements. If you’ve previously been pushed back on by the bank, we can help find a lender that will say yes.

What support do you offer your clients?

Our team of 9 brokers and 13 support staff are experts in every aspect of the property buying and refinancing process, providing support every step of the way. From determining your borrowing capacity and finding the perfect property, to coordinating with real estate agents and navigating the post-settlement period, we make the loan process simple and easy. But our services go far beyond that, including assistance with conveyancers, insurance, and more. When you’re not working, what do you spend your time doing?

Away from work I enjoy hooking up the caravan and travelling with my wife Lauren, son Charlie and daughter Frankie. We can often be found in Bright enjoying the running and mountain bike trails. Sprinkle some coffee in and I'm a happy man. If we’re not on holidays, we will be found down one of Torquays’ amazing beaches trying to catch a wave or two.
